TESTIMONIALS
The Heart and Parcel lesson materials are such a good resource. You can follow it step by step or use it as a framework for your own ideas. The teacher’s notes and class work sheets are great, everything is visually interesting, and really well laid out, with options for different learning levels. The sessions themselves are set up to be a mix of group work, practical activities around food vocabulary, cooking and food preparation elements and opportunities for independent work via worksheets. The resources enabled us to run a really comprehensive set of Food and ESOL sessions.
The Heart & Parcel resources were an excellent way to get us started on a cooking and ESOL journey. We couldn’t believe how effective combining cooking and ESOL was at bringing the group together, fomenting friendships, teaching daily-life useful vocabulary and bringing about cultural understanding! The power of combining the simple pleasure of cooking and eating together with learning English was stunning. Several people in the group were wary of educational sessions, either having had no formal education or being retired and not in a classroom for many decades, but the cooking and ESOL gave them a stepping stone into more formal ESOL classes and they’re now enrolled into college. For others, the value was in finding new friends, others cooked for themselves for the first time. We loved it! Thank you Clare and the Heart & Parcel team!Â
With the very generous donations from NATESOL, we have created a 6-week cooking and ESOL course you can deliver to your classes and groups!
We have spent the past 2 years writing, developing and trialling a bespoke suite of materials taking recipes from our first cookbook for organisations to use as a starting point for learning through food, cooking, sharing and eating.
We are really proud of the work we have carried out over the years, and we wanted to package up Heart & Parcel in an easy to use 6-week format for others who are wanting to do the same as us: connect with communities through learning, sharing and eating!
All we are asking for is a minimum donation of £20 (all profits go towards sustaining our projects at Heart & Parcel), and you and your group, class or organisation can have access to all materials for six sessions: teacher answer keys, lesson plans, student handouts (essential and challenge), all recipes and our handy guide to using food to develop English language skills.
We also offer fun and interactive half day or full day in person training if you need to help you get started with the cooking sessions. Please email: Clare@heartandparcel.org for full details and prices.
