We are proud to announce this Moroccan parcels workshop led by Hanane from Heart & Parcel at Heart of the Heatons festival.

Heart of the Heatons is an annual local festival of inspiration and connectivity, spreading collective joy through arts, music and culture. This year the festival is running from Friday 4th October to Monday 14th October and the theme is ‘connection’.

Heart & Parcel is a community project based in Levenshulme bringing women from migrant communities together to cook different dumplings and parcels from around the world whilst practising their English language (ESOL) skills, sharing stories, experiences and much more along the way.

Heart & Parcel recently created a cookbook compiling 29 different recipes from 17 women who took part in their cooking and ESOL sessions in 2018 to raise money for future provision for migrant communities. This is the first in a series of Heart & Parcel workshops showcasing those recipes generously given and written by the ladies Heart & Parcel work with!

You will be treated to a cooking session by Heart & Parcel student and teacher in training Hanane in how to prepare Briouate, a traditional Moroccan snack, from start to finish. You will also learn much more about the ingredients, spices and cooking techniques of Moroccan cooking and learn how to make the creamy piquante sauce and fresh salad to go with these delicious parcels.

Ticket price: £35

Your ticket includes:

a two hour lesson with Hanane, all ingredients and equipment provided, Morroccan mint tea throughout the session, briouate salad and sauce to take home with a Heart & Parcel tote bag.

Vegetarians can be catered for.

Proceeds will go to Heart & Parcel’s ongoing projects supporting women from migrant communities in developing their English language skills.

OPEN WORKSHOPS – FREE to all. Everyone is welcome.

We also offer FREE food workshop run by the participants of our ESOL & Cooking projects. As part of an authentic English language activity, one of the tasks set to the ladies during this project is to present a simple dish to the public and give a demo on how to make it. This usually falls during one of the later sessions.

We invite all members of the public to watch, learn, make and try food made by these women from the different communities living in and around Manchester. We  usually have a variety of tables set up demonstrating different dishes. In the past we have had food from Bangladesh, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Poland & Syria!

With these events, there is no need to book, just turn up at any time to watch or join in! Lots of hands on food fun, chatting, making, folding and eating. Recipe cards will also be available at each table for you to try at home.

We are always looking to work with other organisations who would benefit from food workshops and educational sessions. We offer 3 hour workshops with the opportunity to get stuck in, learn how to make something new and develop English skills. If making your dinner isn’t quite what you had in mind, we also offer catering to organisations with hungry workers to feed during meetings!

So far we have worked with the Wai Yin Society, the Inspired People’s project, Levy Market, The Medaille Trust , NATECLA and Stockport Grammar School, The Boaz Trust, GMIAU and have a few more organisations lined up in the coming months. If you would like us to do a workshop, catering event, conference or even a longer term project please do get in touch, we will be more than happy to have a chat.
